Online Tutoring & Mentoring Program

UCLA Engineering Science Corps

Need help with your algebra or calculus homework problem? Perhaps you have a physics exam coming up and have a study question that no one at home can help you with. Are you curious about engineering and would like to learn more? Would you like to meet a UCLA Engineering student?  Want to see math and science in action?  If this is you, then join us at Online Tutoring & Mentoring Program at UCLA’s Engineering Science Corps Outreach Programs.

The Online Tutoring & Mentoring Program at the UCLA Engineering Science Corps (ESC) Outreach Programs works with Affiliate Schools in the Los Angeles area to provide online tutoring to students in middle and high school computer science, chemistry, engineering, math, and physics courses.  Affiliate Schools, who partner with us are invited to our annual events that provide valuable exposure to UCLA Engineering as well as hands-on engineering activities. Students at Affiliate High Schools are also able to take advantage of a priority application window for ESC Summer Programs.

Online Tutoring & Mentoring Program Mission

The Online Tutoring & Mentoring Program is designed to provide support and guidance to high school students in their math, science, and engineering courses as well as provide an exposure to the exciting world of engineering. Our efforts aim to increase student performance in math and science courses which are vital in pursuing engineering or other STEM related fields in college. Additionally, we hope to help students discover their motivation to pursue engineering and offer some information on the pathways they can take to participate.

Engineering Day For Girls

Affiliate Schools will be invited to participate in Engineering Days.  Participants will hear from a panel of UCLA Engineering students about their decision to pursue engineering, apply to UCLA, and what their experience is like as a current student. Students will have the unique opportunity of visiting a UCLA Engineering lab and hearing from a researcher.  Attendees will hear about admissions information that is specific to UCLA Engineering.  Finally, participants will meet members of our design competition teams to learn about the exciting opportunities for UCLA Engineers.

2016 – 2017 Engineering Day dates:

Hands-On Engineering Day

Join us in a day at UCLA, working on a hands-on engineering activity led by our engineering students. Learn about concepts in engineering and utilize your math and science knowledge in this fun hands-on activity. Participants will get to interact and work with current UCLA Engineering undergraduate students and learn about the many oportunities for students at UCLA!

2016 – 2017 Hands-on Engineering Days:

February 27, 2017, or
March 17, 2017, or
March 18, 2017, or
March 19, 2017.
*Affiliate Schools to select one date to attend.

Last spring, we invited six schools to 2016 Hands-On Engineering Day.  The students were presented a technical challenge and had the opportunity to design, build, and test their technical creations. Participants designed and built small-scale wood bridges. The students gained an introduction to civil engineering as they prepared their bridge for competition.
